The World Tag Team Championship was a professional wrestling World Tag Team championship in World Wrestling Entertainment. It is the original world tag team title of WWE.[1] Before its retirement, it was unified with the WWE Tag Team Championship, which WWE recognized as the "Unified WWE Tag Team Championship". On the August 16th edition of Raw, both the World Tag Team and WWE Tag Team Championships were retired and replaced by a new set of championships simply named the "WWE Tag Team Championship".
The championship was generally contested in professional wrestling matches, in which participants execute scripted finishes rather than contend in direct competition. Some reigns were held by champions using a ring name, while others used their real name. There have been a total of 164 recognized individual champions and 113 recognized teams, who have had a combined 176 official reigns. The following is a chronological list of teams that have been World Tag Team Champions by ring name.[1]
